Sunday 18 April 2010
Time: 9am to 3pm
Venue : Island between Parkson Grand and DBI building
This month's show attracted 164 entries 'from our members, out of which 65 plants were from the Phalaenopsis novelty class. We have six sections in this class and even then we have to award an extra 2 thirds because of the high number of entries. Best plant of the show, a Dendrobium aggregatum var Robert Ang was awarded to Mr. Boey Keng Chow . It is a showy plant with 11 flower spikes of more than 1 and a half feet long.
Best runner-up went to Gramathophyllum speciosum "Bertam Valley", a plant entered by a new member, Mr. Poh Soon Kok introduced by Mr. Chan Chee Meng. This showy plant with two long spikes featuring more than 30 dark flowers each is quite unusual.
The show was well supported with many members entering plants for the first time.
Our Society being the oldest in Malaysia, has been very active since the new committe took over less than a year ago. We are proud to say that we are the only society in Malaysia that holds a show each month on the third week. Our monthly show will be replaced by the City Day Orchid Show on 26 to 30 May 2010 at Dataran Ipoh. Two other big shows are in the planning stage and will be announced later.
Many members as well as non members came as early as 9a.m to view the large number of entries. Our distinquished visitor this month was the Perak mayor, Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim who came with his wife to see our show.
