This month's show which is combined with the society's AGM was held at Garden Villa, a magnificient building completely constructed of wood and now a heritage building in Ipoh.

The show attracted 90 plants entered into 19 classes. The Grand Champion went to Mr. Foong Seong Soh with his entry of Blc (Unknown). Photograh on the left shows Mrs. Foong with the prize winning plant.

Best Runer-up went to Dato' Dr. Fonseka, with his Phalaenopsis bellina. Interestingly, Dato' Fonseka's speciality is in Vandas and Ascos but it looks like he is equally as good with other varieties.

The next monthly show will be held at the island opposite Ipoh Parade on 16 October 2011

There will be no monthly show in November as the International Show at Kellie Castle, Batu Gajah will be held from 25 November to 4 December 2011.

Trip to Singapore (WOC)

Singapore will host the 20th World Orchid Conference from 13th to 20th November 2011 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Covention Center.

As an orchid enthusiast, it is an opportunity that must not be missed and Perak Orchid Society has organised a 3 day 2 night trip to coincide with the conference.

The chartered bus can hold 30 persons and accommodations will be either at Fragrance Hotel or Hotel 81, the latter is slightly more expensive. As this is a peak period for hotels, we need to book earlier and therefore we ask all members and friends who are interested to register with us so that final arrangements can be made.

The tentative dates will be 14th night to 16th November 2011.

Apart from trips visiting the WOC at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and convention Center, we will try and visit some of the farms in Singapore and Johor Bahru.

The cost of the return trip and hotel accommodation will be RM425 per person on a twin sharing basis for a group with a minimum of 20 persons. If more than 20 persons register, then the price will be adjusted accordingly. The cost of ticket to the WOC is about SGD20 per person (senior citizens are entitled to a discount) but we will try to negotiate for a group discount.

No meals will be provided but the bus will bring us to some of the larger food courts serving some of Singapore's best hawker food

This month's orchid show proceeded very well and as usual, it was well supported with good show quality plants. A total of 152 plants were registered and Best Plant of the Show was Dendrobium Husmadi Royal x Ly entered by Mr. Liew Chee Seng.





Best runner-up went to Mr. Liew Lip Yaw with his entry of Bulb. phalaenopsis


Yang Berbahagia Dato' Haji Roshidi Bin Haji Hashim, Datuk Bandar Ipoh and family paid a pleasant surprise visit to our show. Datuk Bandar has always showed interest in our society's activities and has helped us in so many ways without which our shows cannot achieve this high standard every month.


Our Dep. President, Leong Tuck Lock and Vice President, Low Kok Keong showed Dato' around the show site and we are sure he was impressed by all the high quality of the orchids on display.
